Conference Team Update, from Diane Chamberlain

We are looking forward to welcoming fellow Toastmasters to this year’s Spring Conference in Southampton.

Conference preparations are entering the final phase. Behind the scenes tasks have been carried out to make sure the stage is truly set for your arrival at the conference. The functionaries have been appointed, all looking forward to the weekend. The conference brochures are already printed.

Conference Booking

For members coming to support the conference and the contests, if you have not booked your place at the conference yet, on line booking has been extended until 3 May, book via the website, after that, it’s pay on the day. If you have any queries about payments please email

The International Speech and Evaluation Contest finalists, congratulations to you all. The conference team and all the supporting members, look forward to you joining us in Southampton on 6-7 May. Any queries or assistance about your attendance, get in touch with the Conference Team.

Our allocation of hotel rooms at the Grand Harbour Hotel have sold out. Thankfully Southampton has plenty of other accommodation options for you. There are several hotels in the West Quay area just a few minutes’ walk away including The Holiday Inn, Ibis, Novotel and the Premier Inn is right across the road.

Travel to Southampton

Driving, there is a car park next to the Grand Harbour Hotel. Retain your car part ticket, before you leave the hotel, go to reception and they will swap your car park ticket for one which will open the barrier without you having to pay for parking. This doesn’t apply to other car parks nearby.

The post code for the hotel if using your Sat Nav, may take you to Ikea. Great for the flat pack furniture challenge, not so for attending the conference. The hotel is in the on same side of the road as Ikea, drive passed Ikea and you will see the glass triangle of the Grand Harbour Hotel, the car park entrance before you reach the hotel on the left-hand side.

There are regular direct trains departing from London Waterloo Station to Southampton Central. For members travelling on the Friday, there’s plenty of choice. If you are planning to travel down on the Saturday the earliest direct train departs London Waterloo at 7:05. This arrives in Southampton at 8:55. A dash from the station, only a 12-minute walk, you may miss the opening ceremony, but will make it by 9:15 for the first workshop. Check the South West Trains website for timetable details.

Club Banner Photos

District 91 Presidents Distinguished District

We are looking for sharp photos of D91 clubs to build a Power Point presentation which will be shown on screens at the conference. By raising awareness at your club with your VPPR or President that an image of your fellow members around the club banner should be included in the presentation, you will be helping to raise awareness of your club.  Please send images to as soon as possible?

See you in Southampton.
