Business Breakfast – AI is a threat to Cyber Security

On 5th May 2018, as part of the D91 Spring Conference, there will be an AI & Tech Business networking breakfast in Bracknell. Come along and participate with industry experts in a meeting where Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cyber will be hotly debated.

AI Cyber Security

Cybersecurity is a hot-button issue of the day with numerous media reports covering a wide scope of security hacks and breaches. Major retail corporations, credit bureaus, and even governmental entities have been hacked or attempts were made to do so. The old adage ‘knowledge is power’ has never been truer and as hackers and the tools they use become more advanced so will the cybersecurity methods used to stop them. Spring Conference Update – Helena Brewer

Helena Brewer, our D91 Spring Conference Director, provides an update of this year’s conference ‘Make Your Communications Matter’.

Why attend the conference?

I first went to a conference because I’d seen fellow members return from them buzzing and energised and full of new ideas. I wondered what I was missing out on. When I went along I discovered it was about the opportunities, learning and networking with like-minded individuals from all walks of life and all levels of experience. Conference provides an enlightening insight into the diversity of our District, from Canterbury to Croydon, Clapham, Covent Garden, Canary Wharf, City Women, Citi Criers and beyond the City Limits, to Camberley, Chiltern and Cheltenham to Cardiff. All members are welcomed at the conference.

What a Day, What a Conference! By Paul Rhys-Taylor

Our last Autumn Conference was held at Gatwick Airport. This one-day event was packed full of value to inform, educate and entertain members and guests from across the District and beyond. Next year, districts will only be required to hold one annual conference, the Spring one in May.

As the Conference was held at Gatwick Airport it had a flight theme and by the end of it we were flying high. The keynote speech was brought by Aletta Rochat who flew in from South Africa to join us. Aletta is the Region Advisor for Europe, the Middle East and Africa for Toastmasters International – and what an inspiring and affirming keynote it was! Aletta described and gave value to a range of essential service leadership qualities and then she invited District Director Pedro Casillas, to recognise members in the room who exemplified each one. There were also edifying Communications and Leadership workshops run by well-respected district leaders.

Toastmasters International Convention, why did I attend? By Arnaud Sartre

To paraphrase Dananjaya Hettiarachchi (WCPS, 2014), I saw something, but I did not know what it was … So I decided to attend the Convention in Washington, DC in 2016. I wanted to experience the event from start to finish whilst visiting a city I had never been to before – this is always a bonus!
