Meet a Leader – Nigel Oseland

Over the past year I have interviewed our District 91 speech winners and the rest of the District Leadership Team (DLT), so this month it is my turn as your D91 PR Manager. I therefore don my schizophrenic hat and interview myself.

Can you tell me a little about your background?
I was raised in the “Black Country” in the West Midlands; I did okay at school but had little educational ambition so I left school to work and train with the NHS as a Physiological Measurement Technician. After working with psychologists I secured a place at Keele University then went on to do a Masters in Environmental Psychology at Surrey and a PhD at Cranfield (like the sixties group, I have Three Degrees). Education and learning new stuff is my fundamental motivation, and this extends to carrying out research, travelling and meeting new people – every day is a school day.

The Explorers’ Cup Continues Its Journey

The Explorers’ Cup made its shortest journey so far – across Chichester from County Communicators to Arun Speakers. Phil Maddocks, Johnathan Kaye and Andy Hammond attended the County Communicators’ contests on 21st March when they wrested the Cup away following its tour of various desks in County Hall.

The Explorers’ Cup has stayed in Division H so far – who will come and claim it from elsewhere in the District? Remember, you need three visiting club members to take on meeting roles at the host club in order to claim the trophy.

Pathways has Arrived!

The target for club visits by our Pathways Guides was exceeded, therefore Pathways will be rolled out across District 91 today. A huge thanks to all our Pathways Guides and Ambassadors, and to all the clubs, for the fantastic effort in getting those visits completed.

Every member will receive an email from Toastmasters International at 8pm today, announcing that Pathways is live and including details of how to get started. For those who are super eager, Pathways will actually be live from 2pm and you can access it here once you have logged on to Toastmasters Central.  Members are encouraged to take the assessment and select their first Learning Path straight away, although not required. It will be beneficial to have a number of current members familiar with Pathways so that they can support new members who will only have access to Pathways and not the old programme.
