How Many Club Members Does it Take to…
When we think about this question, it’s really to do with understanding the health of your club. In order for a club to be granted its charter by Toastmasters International, it needs 20+ members. We sometimes call ‘20’ the magic number as it is a figure that ought to be maintained as the minimum number of members. It’s the prerequisite to qualify for ‘Distinguished Club’ status and it demonstrates a commitment to the service of its members. For these reasons and more, it’s why 100% of our clubs with 20+ members is the third part of our District Vision 1-80-100.

I’m partial to the odd quiz so I’d like to open up a challenge to you! Here is a little quiz and I expect your answers by 30 November 2021. There is not really a ‘correct’ answer, however this is an exercise in finding information and the thought process behind the answer. So here goes….

Events, events, events
Last month we celebrated the 97th anniversary of our organization. 22nd October is known as ‘Toastmasters Day’ or ‘Smedley Day’ and as District 91 we hosted a morning ‘Open House’ and a member of Bloomberg Toastmasters led an inter-company lunchtime Table Topics session. If you organize an event, this typically fits one of the higher levels Pathways projects and you can find out more about Levels 4 and 5 at our webinar on 14th November.
November sees us reach the Division level finals for the Humourous and Table Topics Contests. Your District Leadership Team look forward to seeing you at these events where we will be holding a mini Hall of Fame, celebrating each Divisions achievements for Q1 of this Toastmasters year.
It’s not too early to plan for the Spring Contests. Did you know that if every club has just one more member achieve a Level 2 Certificate of completion chronologically, we’ll have a pool of 170 more judges for our Contests in early 2022?! Could this be you? 1-80-100 = Every member achieves an educational award. Perhaps you’ve completed Level 1 and a stretch target is to complete Level 2 in order to compete in the International Speech Contest or serve as a judge.
Finally, the Winter Training season has begun and we’ve kicked it off with training of our Corporate Club Officers. I’m pleased to see the engagement in Week 1, and look forward to seeing more of you in Week 2. Reach out to your Area/Division Director to find out about other training sessions and check out the District Calendar as such events drop into the diary!
