As August arrives, so does the Smedley Award period. From 1 August through to 30 September if you increase your membership by five new members, your club will qualify for the Smedley Award.
Why not hold fun summer events, such as speech on the beach? Granted harder to do this in land-locked locations, so how about an excursion to the local park and set up your own speakers’ corner? Whatever you decide to do, invite guests, co-workers, friends and family along to find out more about Toastmasters International.

The International Convention in Washington takes place this month. Some members from our District have decided to attend the event and will be there to support our contestant, Thien Trang Nguyen Phan in her bid to become the new World Champion of Public Speaking. If you can’t make it to Washington, Toastmasters International will be streaming all the speech contests. Thien will compete in semi-final 4, which takes place on 18 August, between 8am to 10am Washington time, a more sociable 1pm-3pm UK time. Follow the details on the Toastmasters.org website to set up the streaming of the Thien’s semi-final or any of the other events. Why not get together with other club members and watch events unfold?
